Check Out This Desi Semiclassical Dance Routine to Beyoncé’s “Formation”

This clip featuring dancers Reejuta Joshi and Sneha Bhattacharyya performing a semiclassical Indian routine to Beyoncé’s “Formation” is proof that the power of Beyoncé truly crosses cultural lines.

In an email to The Aerogram, Joshi wrote:

Beats and rhythms speak beyond cultures, and the fusion of movements and music is something [that] unites cultures on a level deeper than what divides them.

While “Formation” is first and foremost an anthem of black empowerment, it’s fascinating to see where even many outside the track’s intended audience can find their own connection to Beyoncé’s themes of empowerment and revolution. It’s also another example that as desis, we should always stand in solidarity with movements like Black Lives Matter — as you can never ignore the intersectionality.
