Kumail Nanjiani

Will 2014 Be The Year of Kumail? It sure sounds like it according to this recent Boston Globe profile of the Pakistani-American comedian. Nanjiani and fellow comedian Jonah Ray are set to begin taping their new Comedy Central show The Meltdown next month. And in April, he’ll be seen in the upcoming HBO show Silicon Valley, a comedy about a bunch of start-up founders. (Boston Globe)

Danny Pudi Talks Sundance: Community’s Danny Pudi debuted his feature documentary short Untucked at Sundance on Friday. He talked to Vulture about the experience:

How does it feel to have fans coming up to you as an indie filmmaker?
Uh, it’s strange. The great thing about, I guess, my life in the last couple of years has been that I’m getting accustomed to strange shifts and things happening that I don’t really understand and just rolling with it. So this was truly a surprise. Because I never really thought this would really happen. I just didn’t. [Vulture]

It Looks Like There Will be Only One Indian Winter Olympian This Year: And the reasons for that are super sad. Luger Shiva Keshavan is all set to head to Sochi next month, but unless things drastically change he’ll probably be going solo. Skiers Himanshu Thakur and Nadeem Iqbal have both qualified for the Games, but they can’t go unless they receive the approximately $7,300 India’s sports ministry has promised them. (The money would go towards equipment, travel expenses and other necessities.) As Thakur puts it, “It’s simple, if they give us the money, there’s hope. If they don’t, we won’t go.” Someone tell one of these guys to come to the rescue. (The Guardian)

Jhumpa Lahiri Thinks American Literature is Not That Great: During her appearance at the Jaipur Literature Festival, Lahiri had this to say, “Our reading habits are transformed by the mainstream and to be frank, I find American literature massively overrated.” Tell us how you really feel, Jhumpa. Danny, Sandy and Rizzo Head to Pakistan: Grease is being staged in Karachi. Some people might wonder if a musical about working class American teenagers who struggle with gang violence, teen pregnancy, drugs and alcohol would be a good fit for a Pakistani audience, but director Nida Butt says the storyline has not been altered at all. “Grease is fabulous just the way it is,” she said.
