Rumors have started surfacing that two-time world boxing champion Amir “King” Khan will be Floyd Mayweather’s next opponent.

Those rumors point to a May 3, 2014 fight date to be held at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand.

Khan (28 wins, 3 losses, 19 knockouts) had been scheduled to face world welterweight champion Devon Alexander on December 7 in New York. However, The Daily Mail is reporting that Khan will back out of that fight and continue training in the Bay Area for what might be a “200 million blockbuster.”

The undefeated Mayweather is coming off a dominating victory against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez on September 14. The Daily Mail‘s report speculates that an official announcement could be made “in the next few days” but both camps are denying an agreement at this point. Khan’s camp says the British-Pakistani boxer is still focused on his December fight against Alexander. Meanwhile, in the LA Times, Mayweather’s advisor said:

“Floyd just fought two weeks ago,” Mayweather advisor Leonard Ellerbe told The Times. “Can’t he take a vacation before someone anoints the next guy?

“I have no idea” where this is coming from, Ellerbe said. “We hear rumors all the time. Who wouldn’t want to fight Floyd Mayweather? Everybody wants to be in the money pot.”

Should the fight become official, Khan will be a heavy underdog having lost two of his last four fights and going up against Mayweather, who is widely considered to be one of the greatest fighters ever. However, the fight — which would be televised pay-per-view by Showtime — would still almost assuredly be a huge blockbuster and would feature both fighters training for the fight in its All Access series.

That’s all nice and good and all, but there is only one question in my mind: will Justin Bieber be part of Mayweather’s entourage again?
