‘Rome’ Alum Indira Varma to Join Season 4 of ‘Game of Thrones’

You may remember Indira Varma from that one time she butted heads with Aishwarya Rai in 2005’s Bride & Prejudice–Gurinder Chadha’s weak film adaptation of the similar-sounding Jane Austen novel.

However, it’s more likely that you’ve seen Varma on HBO’s Rome, where she played Niobe during season 1. Varma will soon return to the world of television, as she has just signed up to play Ellaria Sand on the fourth season of Game of Thrones.

So far, all we know about her role is that Ellaria will be “the sexually adventurous paramour of a key new character.” Far be it for us to ruin the party with any spoilers, but we do hope that Varma’s character will have more depth than serving as exotic eye-candy.

  1. A whole blog post about Indira Varma and no mention of Mira Nair’s “Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love”?!?!? That timeless cinematic classic? (BTW if you do watch that film you might see why they’re casting her for GoT…)
