Zayn Hits High Notes on The Tonight Show With “It’s You” & Mind of Mine Album Cover

In his first solo performance since leaving boy band One Direction, Zayn Malik sang “It’s You” on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. There’s speculation that the song is about his breakup with Perrie Edwards of Little Mix — the two were engaged in 2013 and split up last year. Listen to Zayn’s falsetto in action as he croons through the debut performance of “It’s You,” adding what sounds like a Qawwali-style raga run with the last “I don’t know why” around 53 seconds from the end of the video below:

“Pillow Talk,” the first single released from his new album Mind of Mine has reached #1 on the iTunes chart in 68 countries so far. The Tonight Show appearance also marked the debut of cover album art for Mind of Mine, scheduled to be released on March 25 — the one-year anniversary of his departure from One Direction.
The album cover features a smiling childhood portrait of the artist with tattoos superimposed on it, and it has drawn comparisons to Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter III(Raise your hand if the large henna-themed tat made you think for just a split sec that this could’ve been an unaltered party snap from a desi wedding’s mehndi night.)
