Indian Man Attacked in Apparent Hate Crime in NJ. Rohit Patel, 57 (incidentally the same age as Sureshbhai Patel), says it hurts to talk after he was beaten over the head by a stranger in North Brunswick last week. His injuries include broken teeth. Police report that the alleged attacker targeted Patel because he was Indian and that there have been other such attacks in the area. Nyle Kilgore, 24, was taken into custody and charged with bias intimidation and aggravated assault. Kilgore is now out on bail, leaving Patel and other Indians in the local community afraid to leave home.

Read Tharoor’s essay to find out why WWI’s centenary is forcing a rethink of these soldiers.
