Now it’s time for the funny stuff.
After a week filled with news about the Miss America pageant winner Nina Davuluri, it was only a matter of time before South Asian American comedians started weighing in.
In a segment introduced by Jon Stewart as “Back to Brown”, The Daily Show‘s Aasif Mandvi had this response to Nina Davuluri’s win and her Twitter haters.
Best line: “Look, Jon, it’s Twitter! You’ve got 140 characters and 120 of them are racist for no apparent reason!”
Second best line: Mandvi singing “If you like it you should have arranged a marriage with it… if you like it you should have arranged a marriage with it” — to the tune of Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies”.
Not to be outdone, Goatface Comedy’s Hasan Minhaj devoted his latest video to Davuluri’s pageant win and the backlash that followed.
Best line: “I’ve said this before. If you’re going to be racist, you got to come correct with the racism. You sound like the kids who used to make fun of me in middle school. “Hey Hasan, go back to Islam.”
Have you seen any other bits on Miss America? Feel free to leave them in the comments.
