We’re excited to announce an upcoming event sponsored by The Aerogram — a book reading by acclaimed author and artist Daisy Rockwell.
This Friday, April 18 @ 7 p.m., join Rockwell as she reads from her recently-published novel, TASTE, at The Avid Reader at The Tower, Sacramento’s premier independent bookstore. The granddaughter of famed American illustrator Norman Rockwell, who painted iconic images of small-town America, Rockwell is a painter, translator and writer known internationally for her political paintings, which were featured in her book of essays and images of her artwork, The Little Book of Terror. Or as the Sacramento Bee put it this past Friday, “[she] walks a darker path.
Two years ago, The Aerogram’s Kishwer Vikaas interviewed Rockwell, who blogged anonymously at Chapati Mystery for years under the name “Lapata.” “A part of me also wanted to escape the legacy contained within my real name, I suppose, that of my grandfather, Norman Rockwell,” Rockwell told Vikaas in 2012. “I wanted to make art without the burden of expectations that come with that identity.”
The book trailer for TASTE, Rockwell’s first novel, is directed by Carl Sprague, who designed the hotel for the movie The Grand Budapest Hotel, currently playing at The Tower Theater in Sacramento. It tells the story of Daniel — a 21st century connoisseur with distinctive and often anachronistic tastes — aesthetic, culinary, and even mind-altering. When Daniel sets out to seek answers about his past in long-sealed documents, he makes a startling discovery that leads him on a cross-country quest.
Join Rockwell and The Aerogram’s Kishwer Vikaas for this very special event on Friday.
