It should come as no surprise that I’m quite the Deepika fan, and I’ve been anxiously awaiting her upcoming films after her streak of box office hits in 2013. Her next Bollywood feature appearance will be as part of the star ensemble in Homi Adajania’s upcoming film Finding Fanny. The trailer for the movie had its world premiere earlier this month and looks promising:
The movie also stars Arjun Kapoor, Dimple Kapadia, Naseeruddin Shah, and Pankaj Kapur, and all five of these “oddballs” embark on a quest in the heart of Goa to find the local post man Ferdie’s (Naseeruddin Shah) long lost love, Stefanie Fernandes aka Fanny. As the trailer shows, Finding Fanny doesn’t look like it’ll be your standard song-dance-dishoom Bollywood movie. In fact, the entire movie is reportedly English, and it seems like Finding Fanny’s idiosyncrasies caused significant delays in the production of the movie.
Homi Adajania allegedly had almost completed this movie’s script right around when his directorial debut Being Cyrus was released in 2005, but he put a hold on Finding Fanny due to concerns that it might be “too offbeat.” After some initial casting hiccups (Deepika and Arjun Kapoor only came into the picture after the movie was turned down initially by both Sonam Kapoor and Imran Khan, respectively) — Finding Fanny’s production finally began in October 2013.
From the seemingly unique story to the veteran actors to the new pairing of Deepika and Arjun to the reunion of Homi Adajania and Deepika after their hit 2012 film Cocktail — I’ve got some high expectations for this movie. Here’s hoping that Finding Fanny doesn’t disappoint me when it premieres on September 12, 2014.
