Earlier this week, fellow contributor to The Aerogram Ashley Kooblall pointed me towards the fantastic Penn Masala-inspired “Evolution of Bollywood Dance” video spoof by the DhoomBros. YouTube entertainers DhoomBros are a group of four actors and dancers: Shehryaar Asif, Hussain Asif, Waqas Riaz and Atif Khan. Considering how popular the DhoomBros seem to be, I’m surprised that this was the first time I had ever heard of them — but this very funny video certainly didn’t disappoint!
In a mere seven minutes, the group pays hilarious tribute to the history of Bollywood dance via a musical journey through the years 1955 to 2014. This video features the DhoomBros creative recreations of 29 classic songs and their uniquely ridiculous dance moves. Despite some errors in the chronological order of songs here and there, this video approached near perfection.
For your further edification, I’ve included a list of all the songs, their associated movies, and the year in which they were made, you know, because these are the important things in life:
- “Tera Mera Pyar Amar” from Asli-Naqli (1962)
- “Sar Jo Tera Chakaraye” from Pyaasa (1957)
- “Mere Jhoota Hai Japani” from Shree 420 (1955)

- “Baby Doll” from Ragini MMS 2 (2014)
And, as if all of this weren’t already enough to make your week, I’ve created a playlist with all the original 29 music videos — 2.5 hours of pure Bollywood mazaa. So what’s next guys — an evolution of Bollywood costuming? It probably wouldn’t be quite as entertaining — basically the men’s shirts have become progressively more sheer and the women’s tops have become progressively more cropped over the years. #Truth
