Hari Kondabolu and the Sikh Captain America Take New York by Storm

We first took notice of Vishavjit Singh, a.k.a. the Sikh Captain America, in September when we read his essay in Salon about walking through the streets of Manhattan while dressed as the beloved comic book character.

Turns out we weren’t the only ones who vividly remembered Singh’s story months later. The staff at FXX’s Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell reached out to Singh and asked him to once again don his costume to see how New Yorkers would react. As comedian Hari Kondabolu notes in the intro to his latest Man About Town segment, “I thought it was really brave and kind of weird. So I had to meet him.”

Why did Singh chose to portray Captain America? “It’s the most patriotic of all superheroes,” he said. Watch in full segment below. (Highlights include Singh tying turbans on passers-by and a conversation with a pedestrian who says America isn’t ready for an “Arab Captain America.”)
