Bharara indicts D’Souza for illegal campaign donations. Dinesh D’Souza, the conservative writer and filmmaker whose 2016: Obama’s America criticized President Obama, was indicted Thursday for allegedly violating campaign finance laws, and is expected to be presented and arraigned today in federal court in Manhattan. A press release issued yesterday from the office of U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara announced the indictment charging D’Souza with “violating the federal campaign finance laws by making illegal contributions to a United States Senate campaign in the names of others and causing false statements to be made to the Federal Election Commission in connection with those contributions.” The Senate candidate who received the donations is not identified but Reuters reports that D’Souza campaigned for Wendy Long, a Republican and fellow Dartmouth alum who ran for office in the U.S. Senate in 2012.
