Anthony Weiner’s campaign for New York City mayor finally fizzled out Tuesday night when the former Congressman finished fifth in the Democratic primary. Conspicuously absent during the final hours of the primary race was the candidate’s wife, Huma Abedin. The Hillary Clinton aide was scheduled to head to the polls with her husband and toddler son, but ultimately stayed at home because she “had to jump on a call and couldn’t make it,” according to BuzzFeed’s Ruby Cramer. A campaign spokesperson said that Abedin did in fact vote later in the day, but failed to provide further details. (UPDATE:: NYMag’s Daily Intelligencer is hearing Abedin may have spent primary night in the Hamptons.)
Many political reporters also noticed Abedin’s absence during her husband’s concession speech. A sampling of the Huma-centric Twitter conversation is below.

No Huma Abedin standing next to Weiner now as he gives his concession speech.

Anthony Weiner ends concession speech w/no mention of his wife Huma Abedin. Even after long list of naming staff, mentioning parents, son.

SO hoping Huma Abedin runs for mayor of NYC in four years and kicks everyone ass. Or she should run for Congress. She should just RUN.

All this speculation over Huma Abedin's absence from Anthony Weiner's side today. How does this fit into the big picture for average people?
