You always knew former model and New Girl actress Hannah Simone was cool. Prime example: her Twitter conversations with fellow awesomesaucer Mindy Kaling.
“@mindykaling: saag panner more like swag paneer, is that cool to say?” haan #palakisthedopeness

But last week Simone, whose father is Indian, visited the Motherland on behalf of international charity Free the Children. The charity joined The Malala Fund in a world-wide social media campaign called “We Are Silent.” Here’s a video from the campaign with Simone, Selena Gomez, Orlando Bloom, Jennifer Hudson, Seth Rogan and other celebrities.
Free the Children believes in a world where all young people are free to achieve their fullest potential as agents of change. They work to empower youth to remove barriers that prevent them from being active local and global citizens.
On June 17, Simone got on a plane from Bhutan to India. “Bye bye beautiful magical Bhutan,” she wrote in the caption to the Instagram.
She went to Rajasthan, “where 60% of girls have dropped out of primary school.”
She danced with the women. “So inspired by the people I have met in Rajasthan this morning! They welcomed me into their puja ceremony to bless the school we are helping to build… And then we got our dance on. @MetoWe #education #happydance @freethechildren”
Simone stacked bricks in a salwar kameez. “Hard at work for the children @freethechildren and the motherland. #brickbybrick #educationistheanswer” she wrote on her Instagram.
And she carried water from a well. She wrote, “The inspiring Moni Bai took leader Wanda and I on a water walk from her nearly dried up well to her home. Thankfully FTC is helping her and her community deepen her well by over twenty feet so they will have clean safe water and more of it. Moni Bai also showed me how to improve my whack roti rolling style. #waterislife #thispotisnojoke #monibaihadjokes”
