Yesterday President Barack Obama extended his best wishes to Muslims around the world as they prepared for the start of the holy month of Ramadan. He stated that the sacred month was a reminder of the universal values of freedom, dignity and opportunity and that “many citizens across the Middle East and North Africa continue to strive for these basic rights.”
On Twitter, Obama’s Ramadan greetings were met with sharp criticism, as many users cited things like the treatment of Muslim detainees at Guantanamo Bay and the continued lethal drone attacks in Pakistan. This will be the 12th Ramadan in U.S. captivity for some detainees. A chilling video by filmmaker Asif Kapadia shows rapper and MC Yasiin Bey, aka Mos Def, attempting the same method of force-feeding used at Guantanamo.

isn't particularly excited about Ramadan greetings from a President who is presiding over torture at Gitmo and drone murders in Pakistan.

I am assuming Obama's greetings to Muslims wrt Ramadan are also directed at Muslims he will be force feeding at #GTMO during that month.

@BarackObama I mean, maybe cut the drone strikes for the month of Ramadan? That's sure to save some family time. Maybe? No? Hmm…
