We’re asking different writers, artists and others to share some of their current favorites. This week we feature picks from Devna Shukla, an editorial producer for CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360. She has traveled the country with Anderson to cover breaking news stories including the Newtown shooting, the Boston bombings, and the presidential inauguration. Devna was a key member of teams producing two Emmy award winning town halls with AC360° on bullying and perceptions of race. Devna graduated Phi Beta Kappa from UCLA in 2009 with a degree in political science. She is a proud member of the Step Up Women’s Network and spends time mentoring teens through their Young Luminaries program.

Follow her on Twitter at @Devna and on Instagram at @DevnaS.

Mindy Kaling

Is there anything Mindy Kaling can’t do? To me, she is unapologetically cool and a woman who commands confidence and attention. She is changing the game in Hollywood — a strong example of beauty, brains, and achieving your dreams. Plus she looks like she is having so much fun doing it.

I love the South Asian subtelties that Marchesa designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig incorporate in their Notte line. I was first blown away by the sari gown that Hayden Panettiere wore at the 2012 Emmys. Notte is the perfect blend of elegance and flair — and easily works for eastern and western weddings.

CNN’s Documentaries

Working at CNN, I am privy to the hard work that goes into each and every program. I’ve particularly been blown away as a viewer by Anthony Bourdain’s Parts Unknown season three premiere earlier this month, which focused on Punjab. He and his team have an ability to totally engross the viewer in the experience. Similarly, the AC360° team recently produced a documentary entitled “The Survivor Diaries,” which highlighted Adrianne Haslet-Davis — an incredibly dynamic woman who had her lower left leg amputated after shrapnel tore through it during the Boston Marathon bombing. Through following her for a year and incorporating her own video diaries, you really experience her spirit of strength, resilience, and hope.

The perfect spring accessory as New York City slowly creeps into spring. I recently bought one in tan and surprised myself at how often I wear it. I’ve paired it with a spring dress for Easter brunch and with boyfriend jeans and stilettos for a night out. There are great options out there in a variety of price points and materials — including faux leather.

Coldplay’s Ghost Stories

Coldplay_-_Ghost_Stories

I am counting down the days until Coldplay releases its newest album on May 19. Their newest songs “Magic” and “Midnight” show the longevity and evolution of this band who I’ve loved since their first album 2000. There is no experience like a Coldplay concert — and I am hopeful for a US tour this year that will be the ultimate summer concert.

I’m always on the search for unique pieces to wear to add personality and style. I recently discovered Karma Mantra jewelry and love their unique designs and attention to detail. The coral & turquoise heart necklace is the perfect summer necklace — and can easily dress up a t-shirt and jeans or a great black dress.
