SAADA’s Photo of the Week: The Chutney Bubble Tea Half Hour

item-cbt-2002-04-29-card-001We’re delighted to share another original image thanks to a collaboration with South Asian American Digital Archive (SAADA), the only independent non-profit organization working to document, preserve and provide access to the rich history of South Asians in the United States.

Today’s feature is a program from The Chutney Bubble Tea Half Hour, a student radio show at The University of Texas at Austin focusing on Asian American issues.

This particular episode from April 29, 2002 is the 24th broadcast of The Chutney Bubble Tea Half Hour and takes a critical look at the political response of Asian Americans to a series of racist T-shirts produced by popular outfitter Abercrombie & Fitch. The show discusses the widespread and local fights against A&F as well as the meaning of anti-racism in Asian American politics of the time and features Rice University student activist Stephen Chao, organizer of a Houston storefront protest.
