America’s favorite nanny recently tied the knot with Indian American inventor and entrepreneur VA Shiva Ayyadurai, the same man who received a backlash of criticism after claiming he invented email at the age of 14.
On Sunday, Fran Drescher — the 56-year-old star from the hit ‘90s sitcom “The Nanny” — tweeted:
Surprise!!!!! We got married! pic.twitter.com/2PBG1fzz6V

And in case you’re wondering, Mr. Sheffield — Drescher’s fictional on-screen romance and employer — congratulated the bride and even posted a selfie on her big day:
The secret’s out! Congratulations to my darling @frandrescher and @va_shiva May you enjoy this lifetime and many more pic.twitter.com/c56bsCwPFf — Charles Shaughnessy (@C_Shaughnessy) September 8, 2014
Ayyadurai also took to Twitter to profess his love:
I love my wife @frandrescher ! Thank you all for your loving tweets, emails and wishes. — VA Shiva Ayyadurai (@va_shiva) September 10, 2014
Drescher has stood by her husband’s claims, even tweeting a link to a recent article on him by The Telegraph. For those wondering how Ayyadurai popped the question, check out this email proposal from the man himself.
Over the years, the MIT scientist met his share of critics who couldn’t quite wrap their heads around the fact that he really did invent email. But despite a fury of death threats, he did back up his claims by providing some legal documents, including a U.S. Copyright certificate for his computer program, EMAIL.
Ayyadurai’s official site gives the lowdown on how he was awarded a copyright for his computer program. His LinkedIn also reveals that he created an electronic version of a “paper-based mail system.”
