This Parody Video of India’s Rape Culture is Going Viral

Indian women are constantly told that rape is avoidable, as long as they don’t dress, talk or walk a certain way. These messages are brilliantly satirized by the sketch comedy group All India Bakchod in their latest video. Titled “It’s Your Fault” the sketch stars Kalki Koechlin (best known for her role in Dev D) and Juhi Pande as two Bollywood-type actresses who cheerfully detail all of the ways women can avoid being raped. Watch the video above to see what happens as the actresses follow their own advice.

As the video’s YouTube description simply states:

“Every sexual assault case in India inspires a string of stupid and hateful remarks against women. This is our response to those remarks.”

Unsurprisingly, the video started quite a conversation on Twitter, with the hashtag #itsyourfault quickly emerging. We’ve compiled a sampling of the Twitter conversation below.

  1. Rape Of Women Is Wrong, Maybe Indian Ladys need to gang Rape Men give them a taste of there own crap sick of the bad stuff men do. as it hurts the Gentlemen in the world.

      • i have however used similar argument to indian men telling me to dress properly – it goes something like this: man: ‘cover your legs and yoru boobs if you want respect; if you dress improperly, you will be groped/molested/raped and its your fault’ – me: ‘i think you should start wearing pants and long sleeve shirts cause the sight of your arms and legs makes me lose control and i want to stick a rod up your ass’ : it actually got those type of men to sort of see hte ridiculousness of their argument of ‘dressing appropraitely’ and ‘asking for rape if u dress like a whore’ – while i agree that my argument obviously its not the solution for long lasting and effective change (and i wouldn’t really do that ever) – it does help to turn the tables on them – cause just try reasoning with them and u cant get anywhere.
